21/05 - And there it is... the outcome of the Dutch Sailplane Grand Prix!!
After the half-time update, the weather changed; like our talkshow host Sander said: our painted clouds finally arrived on our last competition day! So, our participants enjoyed the new circumstances. And the exciting weather forecast for the final day triggered the task setter to compose a challenging and longer task.
However, the forecast did not come true; the pilots had to struggle with sea breeze from the Ijsselmeer that came in sooner than projected. But that made the last day to a very special competition, as still 6 pilots had an opportunity to become overall winner of this Qualifying Grand Prix!
And the overall winner… Tijl Schmelzer came home first and passed Peter Millenaar in the competition; Peter as a second also qualified for the SGP finals, and Roelof Corporaal, scoring points every day, added 4 points to his total which made him third. All three of them were honored with a specially designed, typically Dutch, Delft Blue plate.
To sum up, from the competition director Robert Jungblut:
The Dutch Sailplane Grand Prix was great!
A lot of orange and a lot of happy faces during the closing ceremony of the first Dutch Sailplane Grand Prix last Saturday.
7 days out of 7 great flying weather did even amaze the world best competition pilots.
Not only that; our team of volunteers did an excellent job and that was appreciated by the pilots. Our coverage on social media, PR, taks-setting, field-organization were critical success factors. You will find all this and much more on our website: https://sgp.aero/netherlands2025
