07 March, 2025 - The FAI Sailplane Grand Prix Group (SGPG) is thrilled to announce that the bidding process for hosting qualifying events for the 13th Series is now officially open! Organizers worldwide are invited to submit their bids to host these prestigious events, which will take place between November 1, 2025, and May 31, 2027. This is an unprecedented opportunity for gliding clubs and organizations to be part of a global competition that celebrates the spirit of aviation and promotes the sport of soaring on an international stage.
A Global Celebration of Sailplane Racing
The FAI Sailplane Grand Prix Series 13 aims to bring together the world's best glider pilots in a series of qualifying events that will culminate in the World Final, scheduled to take place at the CLUB DE PLANEADORES DE VITACURA in Chile in January 2028. These qualifying events are more than just competitions; they are a platform to showcase the beauty and excitement of soaring to a global audience, fostering a deeper appreciation for this remarkable sport.
Objectives of the National Grand Prix Events
The primary objectives of the National Grand Prix events are to:
- Select the top pilots for the World Sailplane Grand Prix Final.
- Promote competitive soaring to a wider audience.
- Elevate the profile of soaring as a sport within the host country.
- Engage the local community in the excitement of gliding events.
- Create recognizable gliding heroes who inspire future generations.
To achieve these goals, organizers are encouraged to maximize public viewing opportunities and ensure that pilots actively participate in media interviews and promotional activities. The FAI/SGP organization will provide comprehensive support to organizers in all aspects of event operation and organization, including assistance with commercial sponsorships and funding sources.

- Event Period: November 1, 2025, to May 31, 2027
- Competition Classes: Bids accepted for 15m, Standard, and 18m classes, with wing loading limits applied
- Maximum Entries: 20, with 5 entries reserved for overseas pilots
