SGP Series 12: Bidding period is open
01/01/2023
The FAI SGP management team are pleased to announce the schedule for the 12th FAI SGP series of contests.
The national contests for the 12th series will take place during 2024 and the 12th final will take place in 2025.
In 2024, several changes are anticipated within our organization. Firstly, we will be reducing the number of national events and implementing increased monitoring by the management team. Instead of the current 10 events, we will have 6 to 8 Qualifying Sailplane Grand Prix (SGP) events, with a focus on 4 to 5 events in Europe and 1 to 3 events outside Europe. Additionally, we aim to support regional events that adhere to SGP rules.
Our flagship events will be held in strategic locations, such as St Auban or Varese, and we plan to establish a multi-year commitment to these venues. The primary objective is to cultivate strong partnerships with flying clubs and local stakeholders, fostering sponsorship opportunities and funding. Moreover, this approach will facilitate the development of efficient management groups in specific countries, encompassing aspects such as organization and communication.
Another significant change in 2024 involves transitioning the general class from 18m to 15m, while also accepting bids from all classes. This modification aims to address the needs of junior pilots who currently lack access to an 18m class, thereby broadening participation and meeting demand within our organization.
